LENZKIRCH TING-TANG ARCH TOP MANTEL CLOCK
CLOCK MOVEMENT IN THIS CLOCK HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY OVERHAULED AND SHOULD GIVE YEARS OF CARE FREE SERVICE
This handsome very large mahogany mantle clock was made in the Black Forest of Germany in the last quarter of the 19th Century by Lenzkirch, who I feel were the Rolls Royce of the German clock makers and produced some beautiful clocks of superb quality. They basically were out of business by 1928. From the movement numbers this clock was made in 1902 according to Lenzkirch serial numbering.
A truly wonderful Mahogany veneer Arch Top mantel clock of superior quality.
The case is of veneered mahogany with it's handsome original finish and patina. It is a large mantel clock (14 .5 inches) with it's graceful round top and mahogany insert surrounded by brass below the bezel. What makes this clock unique is it's rear access door. It is skeletonized with a graceful pattern. This made it pleasing to see from both the front, side and rear. Great for placing on a table or, in front of a mirror. There is a small crack on the rear of the top which barely shows. There are brass sound frets to the sides and it sits on brass bun feet.
The brass dial has an engraved, silvered chapter ring with the name E.Mackrill, 85 Prospect st., Hull. The bezel is brass and both it and the glass are original.
The movement is stamped Lenzkirch 1 m 324425
